Caroline, tell us your story…

TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY!

I met Mike at Centre College on the track team.  We were placed in a group together for a plyometric workout. We were doing box jumps when I caught the tip of my shoe on the edge and went flailing to the ground. I was beyond embarrassed, until ten minutes, Mike did the exact same thing.  After that we became very close friends and teammates. Mike even admits to always trying to get in my warm up line at practice so he could talk to me. Three years later we starting dating, and 3 years after that we got engaged!

TELL US YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY!

On a family vacation in Kauai, Hawaii, Mike planned to propose at an ocean overlook a couple miles into a hike. Before the hike, Mike’s dad pulled him aside and said, “You have to propose on the beach at the start of the hike instead of the overlook. Your mom is here hiding on the beach to take pictures and she is not going on the hike.” So instead of having a couple of hours to perfect what he was going to say, Mike had a couple of minutes. He put his arm around me and led me to the beach. It didn’t matter that he only had a couple of minutes to plan his speech because I don’t remember it anyway! All I remember is Mike saying one of my favorite love quotes by Dr. Seuss and then ask the BIG question to which I immediately replied yes!

WHERE DID YOU GATHER INSPIRATION FROM FOR YOUR RUSTIC WEDDING DAY?

We start by deciding what was important to us.  Mike and I wanted good food, good music and our favorite people to just have a good time. As pretty casual and laid back people we wanted our wedding to feel that way too. We were going for a rustic elegant look which was perfect in the barn.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE YOUR WEDDING AT WARRENWOOD MANOR?

We loved the setting. The house was perfect for getting ready before the wedding and the barn was exactly what we wanted for our reception! The bridal suite and groom’s quarters are so elegant and perfect for hanging out with our friends and family before the wedding. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and when the barn is lit up with lights it is stunning.

How long did you have to plan your wedding?

We had about 16 months to plan our wedding. In between our engagement and our wedding date, Mike was deployed to Afghanistan.

WHAT ARE THREE WORDS YOU WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE THE STYLE and feel OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?

  • Style: rustic, elegant, romantic
  • Feel: laid back, southern charm, fun

HOW DID YOU PERSONALIZE YOUR RUSTIC WEDDING DAY?

To get family and friends involved, we ask that they make their “signature cookie” to share at a cookie station during the reception. Every good cookie needs milk so of course we had that too.  It was a tasty way to personalize our event.

OF ALL THE BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS OF YOUR WEDDING DAY, WHICH DO YOU CHERISH THE MOST?

We loved our final send off moment. It was completely unplanned but was so perfect. Everyone gathered in a circle on the dance floor for one last song of the night, “Friends in Low Places”. Mike and I were in the middle of the circle dancing while everyone danced around us. We were able to go around the circle and hug so many of our guests. We were literally surrounded by so much love and it was a perfect moment to start off our marriage.

What was the funniest thing that happened on your wedding day?

One of my bridesmaids wore her dress backwards throughout the entire ceremony!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLE STARTING THE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Chances are people aren’t going to remember it anyway. They will remember the fun they had instead. Something will go wrong, or at least not the way you planned it, but at the end of the day, you’re going to be married and celebrate with your family and friends and nothing else matters.
