Maddie, tell us your story…

TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY!

We met at a birthday party for one of my friends when I was in medical school and he was in graduate school. His roommate knew the birthday girl, but Bo knew no one at the party. I noticed the quiet guy standing to the side and we started talking. The rest was history!

TELL US YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY!

We got engaged on my birthday, March 23. He had planned to propose with a picnic at our favorite local winery and had crafted a detailed plan. However, that particular day in March was cold and rainy. He knew that I would be suspicious if he suggested an outdoor event with such poor weather, so at the last minute he cooked a delicious birthday breakfast and the ring box was hidden on the breakfast tray. After prompting me to open the box, he proposed!

Maddie, tell us about planning your wedding…

What are three words you would use to describe the style of your wedding day? How would you describe the feel?

Rustic Kentucky Elegance. The feel of the wedding was elegant, yet relaxed with locally grown flowers in milk glass vases and food stations with cupcakes for dessert. We held our ceremony outside and our reception in the barn.

Where did you gather inspiration from for your wedding day?

I gathered inspiration predominantly from Pinterest and local wedding magazines (Kentucky Bride, Bridal Bliss Magazine) and heavily relied on Brittney’s design expertise.

Why did you choose to have your wedding at Warrenwood Manor?

Warrenwood is located in Bo’s hometown. As soon as we began looking at prospective wedding venues, it was clear that Warrenwood was the best and only choice! We loved the location, and the beautiful farm scenery and historic house. We also loved Brittney and the Warrenwood team. From the moment we first met with her, we felt like family, and the planning services available cemented our decision.

How did you choose your wedding date?

We both love the fall, and chose October for both the weather and the scenery. We love the warm days and cool evenings in October in Kentucky, as well as the picturesque images when the leaves begin to change.

In what ways did you personalize your wedding day?

We purchased our own vases for the florals at local second-hand stores. We also chose some of our favorite foods to serve at the reception- including mini shrimp and grits and beer cheese shooters, as well as our favorite drinks.

Of all the beautiful moments of your wedding day, which do you cherish the most?

As we knew how crazy (and fun) the reception would be, we planned a private dinner for the two of us in between the ceremony and reception. It was both our most anticipated and favorite moment, as we were able to spend those first few moments of our marriage together eating dinner, cherishing each other.

What is something about your wedding that you thought you would care about, but ended up not?

I was concerned about the weather, as the days suddenly became cool the week before our wedding. Brittney immediately sprang into action with adjustments to our reception plan and helped us rent heaters for the cool evening. Everything ended up being perfect and no one noticed the weather.

What advice would you give to a newly engaged couple starting the wedding planning process?

Don’t become consumed in the wedding planning process. Make sure to take some time to enjoy being engaged as time passes quickly. When planning, trust your vendors. They are the experts in their field and will not steer you wrong. We would also highly recommend hiring a wedding planner (or a month of coordinator) if possible, to help you organize all of the details.
