Kayla, tell us your story…
TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY!
Tyler and I first met during my freshman year at Morehead State University back in 2009, where we both were attending college. As soon as I met him, I knew that he had something special. His personality was infectious and he had this mischievous, yet charming, smile that was unforgettable. A few years later, he graduated and moved to Lexington to start a new job. He was traveling back and forth from Ashland quite a bit, and would stay with his brother in Morehead. One day, out of the blue, he asked me on a date. We went to Reno’s Steakhouse and caught up on what each other had been up to, and got to know each other better. He introduced me to the show, “How I Met Your Mother”, and we bonded over binge-watching and quoting it together. After going on a couple of dates, we decided that we should just be friends, since we lived in separate cities. Shortly after that, we both started dating other people, and were in those relationships for a couple of years.
In 2013, I graduated from Morehead and moved back home to Ashland for a few months. On my way to family vacation, Tyler texted me for the first time in two years. We were both newly single, and he was telling me about a teaching job opportunity in his home town of Paintsville, Kentucky. I had already accepted my job as a teacher at Nicholasville Elementary School, but we continued to talk and the rest was history. He now admits that the job wasn’t the only reason why he texted me haha. So we started dating in September of 2014, and got engaged in August 2016!
My favorite part about our love story is that we are living proof that if something is meant to be, it will come back around! It is safe to say that we are definitely meant for each other, and I’m so blessed to wake up beside my prince charming every day! He is truly my best friend. 🙂
TELL US YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY!
I was planning to throw a surprise 30th birthday for Tyler and invited our closest family and friends. Little did I know, he found a post-it note with his friends’ names written on it. He became suspicious, and figured it out. Fully believing that he would still be surprised, we arrived at my parents’ house for the festivities. Instead of him being surprised, he turned the surprise around on me and got down on one knee! What a fun and exciting day we’ll treasure forever!
WHAT ARE WORDS YOU WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE THE STYLE AND FEEL OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Enchanting, elegant, romantic, fun! It felt like an absolute fairytale! The woodland accents and rich colors created the style and feel I wanted.
HOW DID YOU PERSONALIZE YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Since we already knew it was forecasted to rain, and had been raining the two days prior, my mom bought us a yellow umbrella. This is special to us, because of the show “How I Met Your Mother”, which is mine and Tyler’s favorite. The yellow umbrella symbolizes fate. and finally finding the one. We used the yellow umbrella in our wedding photos, which meant the world to me. I’m so glad that we have that memory to look back on.
What were you most excited about on your wedding day!
The whole experience. Sharing it with my family and friends, seeing all of the beautiful decorations coming together, wearing my dream wedding dress, and walking down the aisle to the love of my life.
OF ALL THE BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS OF YOUR WEDDING DAY, WHICH DO YOU CHERISH THE MOST?
When my dad lifted up my veil, gave me a kiss on the forehead, and handed me over to Tyler. My dad and Tyler had a moment where they looked at each other, and it was just so touching.
WHAT is something you thought you would care about that didn’T end up being important?
The weather. It was pretty cold and dreary, but it honestly made the pictures and the lighting in the barn beautiful!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLE STARTING THE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS?
Take a minute to let it all sink in before you jump into planning. People will have a lot of questions for you, and it’s ok to not know them all. It’s not about how many people are in your wedding; it’s about having the people that you love there by your side to support you.
